Since 1991, the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence campaign has taken place every year, starting on November 25th , on the day of Elimination of Violence Against Women, and ending on Human Rights Day on December 10th . The Centre for Women’s Global Leadership has coordinated this global event since it began in 1991. Since 2004 the GBV Prevention Network has been leading regional organizing with members through the Action and Advocacy Kits.
The 2020, 16 Days of Activism Campaign aims at increasing attention to women safety and well-being during the Pandemic. Well-being is not a burden nor a luxury, it is an individual and collective need. We recognize –and insist—on the importance of caring for ourselves and each other during this crisis as a political act that is integral to our social justice activism, resisting the patriarchal norms and other systemic oppression that value certain people over others. Our physical, mental and emotional wellness are essential, this year more than ever before. We also aim to promote safety as we conduct any community activities.
